A person learned in some particular science or industry, who sits with the judge on the trial of a cause requiring such special knowledge and gives his advice (in Persian they are properly called كارشناس and report to a law court in writing in connection with the technical or professional matter referred to them, and in Iran they are seldom required to sit with the judge on the trial of a cause unless they happen to be official translators/interpreters in the trial of a person who does not speak Persian.)
