1 Law:: confusion of debts : An obsolete term (in English) which refers to a mode of extinguishing a debt, by the concurrence in the same person of two qualities or adverse rights to the same thing which mutually destroy each other. This may occur in several ways, as where the creditor becomes the heir of the debtor, or the debtor the heir of the creditor, or either accedes to the title of the other by any other mode of transfer. HCB. Approximate English equivalents are : merger; extinguishments (of obligations); passing the ownership (from creditor to debtor of property or an amount owed).
