Minoritized refers to the process or mechanisms through which individuals and/or groups are marginalized (Stewart, 2013).
Therefore, using the term minoritized instead of minority better reflects how individuals and groups are unjustly treated through laws, policies, and practices that result in marginalization.
Thus, minoritized reflects actions upon individuals and groups who are marginalized as opposed to using the term minority (a noun), which can indicate a more passive, deficit-based identity.

Marginalization is "the process through which persons are peripheralized based on their identities, associations, experiences, and environments" (Hall, Stevens, & Meleis, 1994, p. 25).
