Forgiveness that is dis- played as a way to seek and maintain advantage over another is a form of pseudoforgiveness (Augsburger, 1981).
Session 1 concerned accurate understanding of what forgiveness is and is not, including information on pseudoforgiveness.
When assessing for forgiveness, researchers must distinguish between the respondent's genuine overtures of forgiveness and false responses or pseudoforgiveness.
A five-item pseudoforgiveness scale is included at the end of the questionnaire and is scored separately from the first 60 items.
