The regeneration experiments of Abraham Tremblay (using Hydra, a cnidarian), Rene Antoine Ferchault de Reaumur (crustaceans), and Lazzaro Spallanzani (salamanders) set the standard for experimental research and for the intelligent discussion of one's data (see Dinsmore 1991).
Certain salamanders are unique among tetrapods in being able to regenerate whole limbs, and frog larvae are often used to study the regeneration of the tail and the lens of the eye.
