توربیدایت
Thick turbidite sequences have been deposited in the Washington-Oregon Trench during the Pleis- tocene ice age.
100 m during glacial maximums, and a lack of bar- riers enabled free transport of sediments from the land to the shelf margin where turbidites directed
The trench was com- pletely filled with turbidites and consequently no longer morphologically evident.
Therefore, turbidity currents could reach the open ocean and the pelagic sedimentary layer was thickened considerably by distal turbidites (hemipelagic sediments: Fig. 7.7).
Turbidites are described as distal (as opposed to proximal) when they are far away from their origin and contain only fine-grained, silty to clayey mate- rial.
