Other problems that may be evident in children with Down syndrome include: delayed motor devel- opment and lack of control over muscle stiffness (Davis & Kelso, 1982), visuospatial deficits (Vicari, Bellucci & Carlesimo, 2005), and memory deficits, especially short-term or working memory (Baddeley, 1986), relative to normal developing peers.
Rourke and colleagues (2002) consider WS to share many of the same processing deficits as those with Non- verbal Learning Disabilities (NLD), especially in their language skills (strength, yet obvious weakness in pragmatics) and deficits in visuospatial functioning.
However, while those with more severe forms of ASD would be most likely to engage in object manipulation, visuospatial abilities and possess "savant skills," children with AS are more likely to accumulate a wealth of information on a particular topic or area of interest (Klin & Volkmar, 1997).
