motive : cause or reason that moves the will and induces action. An idea, belief or emotion that impels or incites one to act in accordance with his state of mind or emotion. In common usage “intent” and “motive” are not infrequently regarded as one and the same thing. I law there is a distinction between them. “Motive” is said to be the moving course, the impulse, the desire that induces criminal action on part of the accused; it is distinguished from “intent” which is the purpose or design which the act is done, the purpose to make the means adopted effective. In Persian, word is neutral and can refer to criminal or non-criminal action.
