In Iran, a usually large sum of money demanded from the buyer who is to buy a street-shop for starting any sort of business therein, the amount varying in accordance with the size and locality of the shop. This payment is usually made as a bulk sum in cash and, in comparison, the monthly rentals of the shop is only a nominal amount. The Persian sarqofli, therefore, is different from the English goodwill in that the latter is ‘a business’s reputation, patronage, and other intangible assets that are considered when appraising the business, esp for purchase. • goodwill • fees for unlocking • key money
