ability; fitness; merit; worth; capability; capacity; qualification (for an office or a function) – NOTE In Persian, قابليت may be used with many nouns, infinitives, or gerunds to form a compound noun. For example, almost all compound adjectives beginning with قابلِ ـ used as headwords above may be changed into a compound noun if used with قابليت instead of قابل in which case, in most instances, their English equivalents will be an English noun ending in – ability or – ibility, or a noun generally definable in any of the following forms: the state or condition of being + adj; the state or quality of being + adj; the state of being + adj; the quality of being + adj; the quality or state of being + adj; the quality or condition of being + adj; the quality or fact of being; quality, state, or instance of being + adj; the condition or quality of being + adj; the condition of being; the fact, or quality of being + adj; the fact, condition, or quality of being + adj. The total number of possible forms with قابليت are too many to be reasonably included in any dictionary, and the following is only a small representative sample of such forms in Persian with their English equivalents :
