prep, Arabic – In Persian, used only in the prepositional phrase در قبالِ that frequently conveys the idea of commitment, obligation, debt, liability, indebtedness, or consideration, or compensatory satisfaction as the result of balancing one thing with another and that is hence rendered very differently in English according to context, eg ‘in lieu of’, ‘towards’, ‘in compensation for’, ‘in acknowledgement of’, ‘before’, ‘to’, and ‘in lieu of.’
