Law::
any portion of collected taxes, tolls, tariffs and other imposts transferred from one town, city, or geographic administration to another town or city in the same territory. N.B. In their books, certain Iranian authors have previously suggested octroi as an equivalent for نواقل which is totally incorrect. Octroi is a French word, and in French law, was originally a toll or duty, which, by the permission of the seigneur, any city was accustomed to collect on liquors and some other goods, brought within its precincts for the consumption of its inhabitants. Afterwards appropriated to the use of the king. See H. C. Black’s Law Dictionary, and (French) Dictionnaire Larousse.
