vi say; utter; speak; tell; declare; state; aver; affirm; mention; allege; recite – NOTE : In English there are roughly about 100 words that have shared meaning elements with say, utter, speak, tell, declare, etc, and that mean ‘to make a statement’ each however carrying unique additional semantic elements that say how and in exactly what manner and with what tone the specific word or phrase or sentence was uttered. Persian is markedly deficient in this kind of vocabulary, and to compensate for this deficiency English-Persian translators often have to use appropriate adverbs or adverbial phrases together with the Persian گفتن to load it with the semantic elements that are absent in the Persian equivalent for the English.
