Anthropomorphic
The term anthropomorphic applies human characteristics, motivation, or behaviour to those of animals, natural phenomena or inanimate objects.
For instance, anthropomorphism takes place when we project proportional and symmetrical systems based on the human body into the design of buildings.
In an anthropomorphic reading of buildings, fa�ade becomes 'face' and elevation becomes 'portrait'.
While more literal anthropomorphic references historically abound in architecture, such as the entrance to the Palazzo Zuccari in Rome shown here, it was Le Corbusier's famous portrayal of the house as a 'machine for living in' that reinforced the attempt to break with this humanizing Language of the past.
