As far as we know, only thirteen men are in the room-Jesus and His chosen Apostles.
One of the best ways to understand the inner significance of these verses is to look at them side by side with the Apostle Paul's teaching about the Lord Jesus in Philippians 2:6-9:
But this familiar emphasis on the mind and understanding was not an invention of the Apostle Paul.
Jesus was giving the Apostles an "example" (Greek hupodeigma) to follow (John 13:15).
