Antibiotics: macrolide, such as azithromycin 10 mg/kg PO or TV, and third generation cephalosporin, such as ceftriaxone or cefotaxime 50 to 100 mg/kg daily IV.
Azithromycin 1 g PO as a single dose or doxycycline 100 mg PO twice daily for 7 days is the treatment of choice for uncomplicated urethritis or cervicitis from chlamydia infection.
For uncomplicated gonorrhea, treat with dual therapy using ceftriaxone 250 mg IM AND azithromycin 1 g PO single dose or doxycycline 100 mg PO twice daily for 7 days.
Alternative treatment options include cefixime 400 mg PO single dose AND azithromycin 1 g PO single dose or doxycycline 100 mg PO twice daily for 7 days AND test-of-cure in 1 week.
Disseminated gonorrhea is treated initially with parenteral ceftriaxone 1 g daily TM/IV AND azithromycin 1 g PO single dose.
