A GC chromatogram may contain upward of 300 peaks and it may be necessary to try to identify all of them.
It is very unlikely that all peaks in the chromatogram will be fully resolved, and a sin- gle peak may contain a number of compounds.
However, the total ion chromatogram of a GC-MS trace does give a reasonable idea of the relative amount of each compound in the aroma extract.
