Information travels through this interface in both directions; ergonomics is very much concerned with getting the information across this interface, and the ergonomist must ensure that displays and controls are compatible with human capabilities and task needs.
4.2.5 Another important task of the ergonomist is the allocation of functions and tasks to the human and machine components.
The system design team (including the ergonomist) decides what functions should be given to the hardware and software and to the human, based on considerations such as human characteristics, task needs, workload, costs, training requirements, and technologies available.
4.2.6 The ergonomist must proceed systematically in order to achieve the desired system goals.
