The pisiform bone is a sesamoid bone, through which the flexor carpi ulnaris tendons passes.
The wrist bones also serve to form the roof of the carpal tunnel, with the flexor retinaculum attached ulnarly to the pisiform and hook of hamate, and radially to the scaphoid and trapezium.
The three muscles that make up the thenar group are the abductor pollicis brevis, flexor pollicis brevis, and the opponents pollicis.
It is a flat thin muscle, located just under the skin and it originates from the flexor retinaculum of the hand - a strong fibrous band that covers the carpal bones on the palmar side of the hand and forms the carpal tunnel - the tubercle of the scaphoid bone and sometimes the tubercle of the trapezium.
Flexor Pollicis Brevis lies next to the abductor, and it flexes the thumb at the metacarpophalangeal joint as well as the flexing and rotation of the first metacarpal bone where the metacarpal bone of the thumb joins the carpal bones of the wrist, the carpometacarpal joint.
