SECTION 3: THEY being the root of all mankind, the guilt of this sin was imputed,(6) and the same death in sin and corrupted nature conveyed to all their posterity, descending from them by ordinary generations
The guilt of that sin is imputed to all his descendants, and the penalty executed upon them at their birth.
By the term "impute" is meant to lay to the charge or credit of any one as a ground of judicial punishment or justification.
This is the sense in which the phrase "to impute sin" or "righteousness" is used in the Bible.
"David describeth the blessedness of the man unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, . . . to whom the Lord will not impute sin. . . .
