In the next step the micelles aggregate them- selves to form supramicellar structures with specific geometries, which depend on the experimental conditions.
These supramicellar geometries, such as hexagonal, cubic, laminar, etc.
At this point of the process, the ceramic precursors are added to the liquid crystals, and the sol-gel process takes place through hydrolysis and conden- sation to yield the ceramics condensed around that supramicellar mesostructure.
After the surfactant has formed, the supramicellar phase is formed (route 1), or at the same time as the micellar mesophase is being formed (route 2).
In a following step, these micelles aggregate themselves to form supramicellar structures that can present dif- ferent geometries, such as hexagonal, cubic, or laminar, depending on the synthetic conditions.
