One form of virtual community, the virtual interest group (VIG), is a type of online community that uses social networking sites to allow collabora- tion among users who are logically grouped with common shared interests (Kallurkar, 2008; Myhill, Shoebridge, & Snook, 2009).
Research has shown that the VIGs that were developed and facilitated via social media platforms provide an integrated environment that supports the work of a community or group of collaborating researchers (Voss & Procter, 2009).
OUR STUDY ON USING SOCIAL MEDIA IN CREATING VIGS
These VIGs were made to utilize and improve these existing services.
• A user blog was created using Blogger (http://www.blogspot.com) for each VIG where information about resources that pertained to the topic was posted by both librarians and group members.
