The Autonomic (Visceral) Nervous System
Visceral (autonomic) motor nuclei are located in between the somatic sensory and motor areas of the spinal cord grey matter.
It is useful to think of the autonomic system as consisting of visceral sensory and visceral motor components (Fig. 19).
The somatic and visceral components of the grey matter remain in the same relative position in spinal cord and brain stem.
Note: a) There are 3 sensory nerves, b) There are 5 motor nerves of which one (CN3) has a visceral motor component in addition to a somatic motor component.
