All Nlinked glycosylations in eukaryotes start with the same initial group, which is subsequently trimmed and then elaborated in diverse ways within and among species.

It is an attractive host for recombinant pro tein production because glycosylation occurs to a lesser extent than in S. cerevisiae and the linkages between sugar residues are of the a1,2 type, which are not allergenic to humans.
