That, while the Scriptures are a complete rule of faith and practice, and while nothing is to be regarded as an article of faith to be believed, or a religious duty obligatory upon the conscience, which is not explicitly or implicitly taught in Scripture, nevertheless they do not descend in practical matters into details, but, laying down general principles, leave men to apply them in the exercise of their natural judgment, in the light of experience, and in adaptation to changing circumstances, as they are guided by the sanctifying influences of the Holy Spirit.
Sometimes this term is applied to God to express his perfect purity: "Sanctify yourselves, and be ye holy; for I am holy."
( 12) Wherefore they who are elected being fallen in Adam, are redeemed by Christ;(1 3) are effectually called unto faith in Christ by his Spirit working in due season; are justified, adopted, sanctified,( 14) and kept by his power through faith unto salvation
(15) Neither are any other redeemed by Christ, effectually called, justified, adopted, sanctified and saved, but the elect only
None but the elect are redeemed by Christ, or effectually called, or justified, or adopted, or sanctified.
