Methylphenidate is an amphetamine that is used off-label for treating CrF.
The inhibition of the reuptake of noradrenalin and dopamine from the synaptic gap and an associated increase in sympathetic CNS activity may be a possible pharmacological mechanism of action, as may the effect of methylphenidate as a serotonin receptor antagonist.
the enantiomers of methylphenidate, is also available but neither drug has been specifically approved and marketed for CrF.
