Nystagmus
Nystagmus is a repetitive, tremor-like oscillating movement of the eyes.
The most common form of nystagmus is horizontal jerk nystagmus, wherein the eyes repetitively move slowly toward one side and then quickly back.
It is normal to have a slight degree of such nystagmus on attempted extreme lateral gaze, but marked degrees are abnormal and found in a variety of clinical conditions.
Vertical nystagmus is always abnormal, signifying a disorder in brain stem function.
