This high density of silanol groups is susceptible to organic modification by covalently grafting diverse functionalities through a reaction with organosilanes, (R'O)3SiR; chlorosilanes, ClSiR3; or silazanes, HN(SiR3)3, as depicted in Figure 1.24.
