Menopause in women and early sexual aging processes in men may cause physical wear and tear, with or without loss of desire as they lose hormonal support: A man may experience erectile difficulty, while a woman may experience diminished lubrication, vaginal dryness and dyspareunia .
(DSM-5 now lists dyspareunia and vaginismus under the umbrella of genito-pelvic pain/ penetration disorder.
I tend to think that while pain penetration disorder diagnosis could be indicated in some cases, the differentiation between vaginismus and dyspareunia is still useful.
This might apply to any dysfunction but it is particularly so for erectile dysfunction, dyspareunia, and vaginismus.
This can cause dyspareunia in the woman.
